Warrior
“I clear the way. You just tell me where.”
In Makhes no one crosses the five lands alone. Four travellers are already under the tree, laughing at something that happened on the road. One is missing.
Makhes · from the Greek μάχες (mákhes) · noun, plural
The plural of μάχη, “battle”. A world with this name does not hide what is waiting for you. What it does not say is that none of them is won alone.
Under the tree
In an MMORPG, the story that stays is not the world's. It belongs to whoever stood beside you when the boss changed form.

“I clear the way. You just tell me where.”

“Fire, ice or lightning? Pick one and stay behind me.”

“If I vanish, it means I'm already behind him.”

“No one falls while I am standing.”
Everyone arrives as an Adventurer. At level 5, Helena asks this same question.Choose my path

The Old Road
Yours starts on a dirt road, with whatever fits in your bag. At the end of it lies Dário's Village: rats in the stores, a flock loose in the gardens, and a watchman who needs two more hands.
You help. You level up. You make your first friend. And one day someone points beyond Vandória and asks if you're coming along.
The map of Makhes
Twenty-two places joined by the same road. The village sits in the middle, the city of Vandória just above it, and around them the five lands: each asks for more levels, and more people at your side, than the last.

Beyond Vandória
Every boss marks the ground before striking. Halfway through the fight, it changes form. None of them falls to a traveller alone.

Land I · levels 9–17
Toad Marsh · Gloom Mire · Temple of Mire
Bufo, the Mire King
“He laughs before he jumps. When the ground turns green, run. Together.”

Land II · levels 16–24
Shell Coast · Castaway Reef · Captain's Grotto
Draven, the Drowned Captain
“The sea pulls everyone toward him. Hold on to whoever is beside you.”

Land III · levels 23–32
Golden Oasis · Valley of Kings · Pyramid of Khet-Ra
Khet-Ra, the Sand Colossus
“The earth shakes and only the diagonals hold. Someone will shout where to go. Listen.”

Land IV · levels 31–40
Howling Tundra · Frozen Peaks · Isvara's Palace
Isvara, Lady of Ice
“She draws a star on the ground and waits for you to misstep.”

Land V · levels 39–50
Forgotten Graveyard · Catacombs of Morvan · Crypt of Morvan
Morvan, the Necromancer
“He marks one of the party. The marked one must run far from their friends before the curse bursts.”
Rank
It is the same list the game opens when someone types /rank, read straight from the server. You climb by levelling up; on a tie, experience decides.
By level and, on a tie, by experience.
Six things they will tell you on the way
Every boss attack shows on the ground before it lands. Read it and step out in time.
The clock of Makhes never stops. Night falls, rain comes, the fog rolls in, and everyone sees the same sky.
Those who fall leave their bones on the ground for an hour. Everyone who passes will know.
Up to five in a party. Every companion nearby raises the experience from a kill, and the gold is shared.
The same dagger can drop common or legendary. Rarity and attribute are rolled on the spot.
Sword, shield and magic grow with use. The more you fight one way, the better you get at it.

Everyone arrives as an Adventurer. At level 5 you choose between Warrior, Mage, Rogue, Priest and Bard, each with abilities of its own.
You can, and that is how the game pays best. In parties of up to five, every companion nearby raises the experience from a kill and the gold is shared. There is chat, private messages and a friends list.
There are 22 maps: the village, the city of Vandória and five lands (swamp, coast, desert, ice and crypt). The bestiary holds 164 creatures, with 32 bosses and mini-bosses, and the climb runs from level 1 to 50.
Portuguese and English. You pick the language on the entry screen.
It comes from the Greek μάχες (mákhes), the plural of μάχη: battles.
